The Llao Llao Hotel beneath the rocky face of Cerro López

Where to Stay in Nahuel Huapi

Bariloche town, the Llao Llao road or Villa La Angostura? Here is where to sleep.

Where you sleep makes a surprising difference in Nahuel Huapi. The park is long, the roads wind along the lake, and a hotel with the water outside the window is half the pleasure of being here.

There are two main bases. Bariloche covers the city centre, the lakefront hotels along Avenida Bustillo, the Llao Llao peninsula and the Cerro Catedral ski area. Villa La Angostura, on the north shore, is smaller, greener and quieter, with some of the finest lodges in Patagonia.

We do not quote nightly rates here because they swing enormously between the ski season, summer and the shoulder months — every card links out to Trip.com for live prices and availability.

How to choose

  • First visit, no car, three or four nights? Stay in central Bariloche or on the first kilometres of Avenida Bustillo.
  • A special occasion? The Llao Llao is one of South America’s great hotels — at the very least, book its tea room.
  • A ski trip? Sleep at Catedral, or in town with a daily transfer if you want nightlife.
  • A longer, slower trip? Split your stay between Bariloche and Villa La Angostura.

Booking tips

  • Book early for January, February and July — the best lakeside rooms go months ahead.
  • On Avenida Bustillo, the kilometre marker in the address tells you how far from the centre a hotel is — and check whether it is on the lake side of the road.
  • Heating matters from April to October; in summer, air-conditioning is rarely needed.
  • Many rates are quoted in US dollars; compare the total in your own currency on the booking page.

Once your bed is sorted, pick the experiences: our ranked tour comparison covers the boat trips and day tours worth adding.
